| Welcome to the
website of the Voyagers Motorcycle Riders of mid-Michigan.
We're a group that formed to promote and enjoy safe motorcycle
riding and motorcycle touring.
The Voyagers originally started
out as the Voyagers Goldwing Road Riders Touring Club. The club
was sponsored by Bay Cycle Sales of Bay City, Michigan. The club
first had their meetings at Bay Cycle in the showroom after the
business closed. The club officers were: President -
Bud Bowers, Vice President - Clark Wentz, Treasurer - Jim
Garrison, Roger Mowery - no office listed. Mike & Lorna
Rodriquez were the sponsors. Bob Hay published the first
newsletter on July 28, 1983.
For the last 20 years, the
Voyagers have been dormant as all the members were GWRRA members
and active within Michigan Chapter V. However, due a resurgence
of interest in reviving the group as a non-exclusive (not just
Goldwings) riding group, we decided to regain official status.
We're now a state recognized non-profit association.
We're composed of members from
the area - Bay, Saginaw and Midland counties as well as Isabella
and Clare. While many motorcycle clubs in Michigan exist as
social and Marque clubs or groups - spending more time meeting
and getting involved in charity events and fund-raisers, the VMR
exists for people who are more interested in riding than in
non-bike-related activities. The founding members all enjoy
riding - short weekly rides such as an Ice Cream ride (picking a
destination that has an ice cream shop, and selecting
interesting routes to get there; and longer rides -- inside and
outside the state. Many of the members are fairly high mileage
riders averaging 15,000 miles a year. As well, all the founding
members are very safety conscious. We all know folks who've been
involved in accidents and we'd prefer riding in a manner to keep
the numbers as low as possible.
